Cultural Awareness Programme

About the Cultural Awareness Programme

The Talent Development and International Staff Office offers workshops that aim to give insights and provide tools to help navigate living and working in Denmark. The workshops promote the understanding of cross-cultural diversity at Aarhus University and in Denmark. They are designed to give insights into Danish culture, as well as into different beliefs and stereotypes about culture in general. The strategies and tools introduced in the workshops can be used to adjust to life in Denmark, but can also be applied to diverse intercultural contexts, especially with regard to international environments at Aarhus University. The goal is for participants to become more culturally aware, as well as to acquire strategies that can bridge any cultural differences.

  • The workshops are for all Aarhus University international staff, including PhDs, and spouses/partners, as well as for Danish academic and administrative/technical staff.
  • The workshops are free of charge, but registration is required.

Danish Living Crash Course Workshops

These 3-hour workshops focus on life in Denmark and how that can be differently experienced, depending on where you are coming from. Danish cultural norms are looked at closely and how and why they have developed historically. The aim is to understand the context of Danish cultural life and work place behavior, in order to increase cross-cultural understanding. Participants learn practical tools and strategies on how to act ‘culturally intelligent’ when living and working in Denmark and when collaborating cross-culturally.

This course is organized by the International Staff Office and is facilitated by Living Institute’s Chief Consultant, Kasper Jelsbech Knudsen. Kasper’s passion lies in promoting cultures of inclusion. He specializes in inclusive leadership, advancing gender parity, unconscious bias mitigation, and cross-culture as well as disciplinary collaborations. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Aarhus University.
