Join the Welcome Buddy Programme in Central Denmark

This new initiative provides newcomers with the opportunity of being matched with a local buddy to help them get a great start while settling in Denmark.

Moving to a new country is a big life change. As a newcomer, you need to create a new network, find where to shop your groceries, understand how public transportation works and even make sure you are not pouring koldskål instead of milk in your morning coffee.

The Welcome Buddy Programme has been designed to support internationals who have recently arrived in Central Denmark, by matching them with someone that can provide the answers to the initial questions while settling in a new country. The participants are matched according to their profiles and preferences, and once the match is done, we encourage the pair to meet at least 3 times in the following 3 months.

How can you join

As a newcomer

In case you had to Google what koldskål is, then you are probably in this category.

Fill the registration form, if you have recently moved to the central region of Denmark. A coordinator of the programme will be in touch with you shortly. Please note the programme welcomes employees and accompanying partners.

“I think as an international there’s a need to meet someone who knows what it is to move to another country and can show empathy. In my case, I didn’t just get a soft landing through my Welcome Buddy, I also got a new friend.”

Shiru, AIAS Post Doc at Aarhus University

As a Welcome Buddy

If you have been in Denmark for a while, and you feel you can share your knowledge and experiences with newly arrived internationals then this category is for you. Note that this of course includes Danes, so do not hesitate to join.

You will be the go-to person for an international working in Denmark or their accompanying partner. Among other things, you can answer their questions about everyday life, show them around the city, give them advice or just casually meet for a good chat. If you are interested, please register via this form

The Welcome Buddy Programme

This initiative is the result of the work done by the Job in Aarhus network, a strong cooperation between Aarhus University, The International Employment Unit Aarhus, Central Denmark Region, HEADSTART, Business Region Aarhus, Destination Aarhus and International Community/Erhverv Aarhus.

This network works towards the common goal of ensuring that Central Jutland is an attractive place to work and live for international employees and their accompanying families.
