” I feel really privileged to have joined this fabulous team. To help internationals settle here in Aarhus and at the university has an intrinsic meaningfulness to me, as it paves the way for cross cultural understanding and academic development.”

Barbara joined the International Staff Office in August and will be working with relocation processes and rules on social security. She holds a master’s degree in Advanced Migration Studies from the University of Copenhagen. Throughout her studies she has focused on culture, language, global mobility and integration processes in Denmark. Before joining Aarhus University, she taught Danish as a foreign language, and has worked with events, communication and project management in various settings.

Barbara has lived in New Delhi a couple of times and considers this vibrant, historic (and crazy) city her second home.

“I really loved living in India, and learned so much from the experience of moving to a completely different country with all that it entails. It can be challenging to deal with a new culture, language barriers and complicated, bureaucratic processes, but for me the experience provided a lens to see my life and priorities from another perspective. Dealing with such a massive change, in my experience, takes time, patience and not least – a local point of contact. In the future, I hope to become that reference point for new international researchers here at AU.”

Barbara will spend her first months at the office focusing on gaining knowledge of social security rules. In late October she will go on maternity leave.

“I’m already looking forward to coming back to the International Staff Office!”
